EMV L1/L2/L3
EMV contact (chip) kernel
A certified EMV Level 2 contact kernel for chip-insert acceptance, with many certifications behind it. It runs alongside our contactless kernels, so one terminal or reader handles both insert and tap.
What it covers
The full EMV contact transaction flow, from card insert to completion:
- Application selection through PSE or the terminal's AID list, including cardholder confirmation and multi-application cards
- Offline data authentication: SDA, DDA and CDA
- Cardholder verification: offline plaintext and enciphered PIN, online PIN, signature and no CVM
- Processing restrictions and terminal risk management: floor limit, random transaction selection and velocity checking
- Terminal and card action analysis with TAC / IAC, online authorization and issuer authentication
- Issuer script processing and transaction completion

Aonax certification statusEMV Level 2 contact kernel certified, with many certifications completed; integrated into card readers and POS terminals
Best for
POS terminals and PIN pads
Chip-and-PIN acceptance next to contactless in the same build.
Card readers
Dual-interface readers that take both insert and tap.
Unattended devices
Kiosks, vending and fuel, where chip-insert is still expected.
Certification projects
Certified many times over, with test cards and lab support to take your device through its own certification.
Contact and contactless kernels share one integration on our card readers. For testing, our Professional and Premium test-card kits cover both interfaces, and our team can support your EMV L1/L2 certification.
